Robert Voit: New Trees

Robert Voit is a German photographer who takes pictures of giant cellphone towers intended to be camouflaged into their surrounding landscapes by their treelike designs. To me, this is funny because of how trees are a universal symbol for the economy, but cellphone towers give off electromagnetic pollution. Although these towers may be harmful to the planet, the art aspect of them are truly outstanding. If one were to walk by a disguised cellphone tower, you might miss it. The towers are created to specifically blend in with the background, almost like a chameleon.

Robert Voit studied under Claes Oldenburg, his work can be seen in Roberts'. Oldenburgs work involves Large-Scale projects, taking a simple object and making it 100 times bigger. Claes work can be seen along side streets and next to buildings, unlike some of Roberts where they are usually in an unpopulated area.

Robert's work has been seen all around the world, and at first passing by, can go unnoticed. When your driving, always be on the lookout for one of his famous cellphone towers.

Transition from A to P

This is now my second post after joining AP Photo, since then, I have worked on the Lines and Breadth projects. Most of the photos for the Lines project were shot around my house, but for the Breadth project, many photos were taken at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. I have yet to print these photos but the negatives look promising. Since the transition, I have focused on my borders and and all of my photos have lined up perfectly. Overall, I think the difference is really showing and more posts are soon to come..

Carlos Diaz

Moving Parts, The invented Landscapes of Carlos Diaz is a unique article. I enjoyed reading about how he creates his pictures and how long it takes him. I found it interesting that it might take as much as a year of arranging and rearranging before he finally commits to gluing down the entire collage. Carlos’s photos are not what you are used to seeing, they make you think about what is happening. The photos do not have any color but I think that adds to them rather than taking away. In his photos you can see many different layers but they all connect.
